Obituary of Charles Wood Halsey

Charles W. "Woody" Halsey Jr., 70, of Lebanon, New Jersey, first cousin to Admiral William F. "Bull" Halsey, Jr., passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012 after heroically battling cancer and related complications for the past year, at the Hunterdon Medical Center. Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he was the son of Charles Wood Halsey Sr. and Beatrice Stone Douglass. He graduated with a BS degree in Business Administration from Belknap College in 1970 adn was elected to Who's Who in America's Colleges and Universities. He served in the U.S. Navy and Army National Guard. He was the general manager of Christy-Halsey Oil Company. He was also a huge community supporter, serving on the Planning Board of the Township of Tewksbury for over 15 years. He was the official scorekeeper for the North Hunterdon High School baseball team and the General Manager for the Clinton Post 503 Knights of the Pyramid American Legion Baseball League. Charles "Woody" is survived by his son, Charles R. "Chase" Halsey and daughter-in-law Kate Halsey; grandchildren McKenzie and Piper Halsey; his father Charles W. Halsey Sr.; and his brother Tony Halsey and by 5 nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on 182 Main Street, Gladstone, New Jersey.
