Obituary of Betty Jane Mertz

Betty Jane Mertz passed away on July 15, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was 98 years old.

Born in Newark, NJ, to parents Walter and Helen (Hoke) Strickler, Betty moved to Basking Ridge in 1947 and has been a resident ever since.

Betty was an excellent secretary and worked for Lyons VA and Tamke Tree Experts in Basking Ridge for 25 years. She took 20 years off between those  jobs to raise her three children. Her favorite pastime during those years and beyond was attending her children’s sporting events.

Betty is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Robert E. Mertz, her beloved son, Robert Dana Mertz, and her sister Virginia B. O'Connell.  Betty is also survived by her sons, David (Diane) Mertz of Kennewick, WA, Carl (Sandy) Mertz of Tryon, NC, and Tyson (Doris) Mertz of Gilette, NJ, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

A committal service will be held on Friday, July 21, at 11 AM at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mt Airy Rd, Basking Ridge. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to ICCF Group for global conservation.
