Ben was such a nice man and so loved by my energetic Kaiser for many years. When we would walk to meet Ben, Kaiser would almost pull my arm off in the rush to greet him… and he was always relaxed and happy. We will both miss him and send huge hugs to Tina and Kayla.

I met Ben for the first time on the field with his brood. What struck me from the get-go was how warm and welcoming Ben was and immediately issued an invitation to Whiskey and I for future dog play dates. From then on, we met him almost daily for a year come rain, sunshine, winter or summer, and we got to know this man who had a huge heart, so much empathy and such quick wit. I always marveled at how happy and kind he was, despite the challenges he faced. His love for his kids never ceased to amaze me. I hope he is happy wherever he maybe now. A huge hug to Tina, Kayla and the furry kids.

I will never forget how warm and kind both Ben and Tina were from the first time I met them on. From taking care of my dear Charlie in his later years, to letting me cry it out when he passed (during the onset of Covid no less, when everyone was fearful to even step outside), to quickly embracing my new pup Henry this year with very short notice (and he’s a lot of dog), they have been such beautiful people to have in my life.
I won’t forget how the last few times I saw Ben it was somehow always raining and cold and late when I went to pick up Henry. Ben was unfazed and smiling. Just the way we should all go through life. I imagine the pups are throwing you quite the party up there, Ben. And to Tina and Kayla, big huge hug as you navigate this new world.

The two handsome pups lounging in the picture instantly became very close friends. Cash(Right) & Lloyd(Left), aka The Little Guy and the Big Fella! I’m very grateful that Ben was part of the family that allowed my little guy in the picture to have a safe haven whenever I needed to work or go out of town. Whatever the reason, I could rely on them on any occasion. Rain or shine, literally. Their dedication made my life manageable in the midst of my busiest moments. Him and Tina immediately embraced my dog and I on that random day we bumped into them in that NYC public park. I find it imperative to mention Ben’s love for dogs because in the time that I knew him, I could immediately tell that dogs/animals were an extension of his essence. To me this is what stuck out about him both immensely and immediately. The love, respect, and bond was clearly solidified between him and the furry creatures that us two-legged creatures have so fittingly nicknamed “man’s best friend”. On a human to human level, Ben was a super chill guy that exhibited a positive vibe, calm energy and a good nature. Though his passing was abrupt, his spirit will forever live and flourish. I’m writing this while sending love and light to his family, Tina, Kayla and his pups & cats! Rest In Paradise, Ben✨

Throughout the years that I got to know Ben through Tina, I will always remember how non-judgmental he was as he got to know my flaws and failings. His deep empathy came from a place of deep respect for people, high intellect, and broad life experience. When Ben gave me encouragement to meet life’s challenges, it wasn’t cheap Hallmark sentiment — it was real and solid and made a difference. He helped my Jack Russell Terrier, Cody build confidence so that Cody was less fearful in the world. When Cody saw Ben, his tail wagged so fast that it looked like a propeller. As soon as Ben directed his attention to Cody, Cody would immediately calm down. He didn’t do that even for me! I like to think that Cody’s heaven is even more perfect now that he and Ben are reunited. Rest in peace, Ben, with Holly and Cody. Thank you for looking out for me while you were here.

Deeply saddened and shocked to hear that this sweet soul is no longer with us.
Ben was such an incredible talent, full of personality and whip smart. And was alot of fun to be around. He made an immediate and lasting impression on everyone he met.
He came to Singapore and stayed for six months in the later part of 2004 thanks to his partner-in-crime Dave D'aranjo and he ended up subbing at Harry's Boat Quay for Eddie Layman and had the good fortune of Christy Smith's mentorship. Even though he hadn't really played jazz before, he was a quick study and held his own up against the well-oiled Chromazone machine. He also played with several bands while he was here spanning rock with Shyam Raj's Withered Tree and even toured in Asia with Curtis King's Blues Band. Just a talented, versatile musician and so much humility.
When I went to NYC for the first time in July 2005, he was the most gracious host. I am sad we lost touch after that despite efforts to keep in touch but was glad to get updates about him from Dave.
It's always sad to lose people but especially so when they have so much more life to be living.
Sending heartfelt condolences to Dave and especially to his partner and grieving family for what must be the most devastating and heartbreaking loss.
Here are some pics from when he was here in 2004. Thank you Dave for digging up these precious memories. This is how I will remember Ben.
You will be missed my old friend. I pray you are finally resting in peace.

If I had to describe Ben - I would say - gentle giant, warm smile, a devoted friend, husband, step dad and neighbor. When Ben walked the block - he was the pier piper to all dogs, drawn to him, ready to follow wherever he was off to. My dog Birdie would go crazy seeing him and Tina and the pack on the street — as if I didn’t even exist. Like Ben and Tina and company are here, I’m good, later.
I am beyond grateful for the love and care you give to so many, furry or non, as we humans can be far more difficult and less forgiving than dogs or cats. Ben: I am envisioning you in heaven surrounded by pets of all kinds — pets who needed to find their someone, who would love and care for them unconditionally. RIP and we are missing you and are here for Tina and Kayla. Xx Carol + Bird

I met Ben when he was in Singapore and he gave me a few drum lessons. He showed me a one handed roll or rather one handed 360 degree roll to which I was blown away as a kid. He just taught me so much stuff and we talked as well about some of the hard times I had at school and he was just such a big mentor. There was once he said he had to use the bathroom and I was like sure Ben of course and then he asked me for matches…. I gave him the weirdest look and was like why would you need matches. He just smirked and said trust me. I obliged and got him matches and told him not to blow the toilet up or Dad would kill me. So after a while, he flushes and I’m expecting the toilet to be real funky because Ben’s a big guy. You do the math. But I don’t smell anything, just the smell of a single lit match. So, I do this every now and then when I think I’m going to leave a real stinker. This probably a weird thing to post up but it was a funny memory that has stuck with me forever. Rest in peace my friend and I hope you are playing those drums real hard up there.

Absolutely heartbroken by the loss of my old friend and bandmate. Some of the best years of my life were spent with Ben, in no small part *because* of Ben. A brother from another mother, and a bond that only music can make. I'll always remember Ben for his humor, sharp wit, and amazing musicianship. Sending my love to the entire Ironside clan, wishing you all comfort and strength in fond memories, and in time some bit of the peace that eluded Ben. Rock in peace, brother.

Ben and Tina have been such a blessing to me ever since the day I'd met them.
They've taken the sweetest care of my baby under ANY and EVERY circumstance with no question. No matter the time of day, no matter what was going on - they've been there for me with open arms to help. Animals are so receptive and know good when it's near. Whenever my little dude saw Ben, he'd run straight to him and leave me in the dust. Ben and Panini were quite the pair, I'm grateful for it. I have no doubts that P will continue to play and snuggle up with Ben, earth-side and beyond. With a heavy heart I am sending Tina, Kayla and the kids, so much comfort and love. I know Ben will be with them always.
Through this loss, I hope we all can be mindful and deliver positivity in our communities, in Ben's memory. With kindness, openness, and care, in ways he has, and will continue to through all those that he'd impacted in his life.
Rest in the sweetest peace, Ben. You will be missed greatly. So much love and support to Tina during this time and always. xo

Dear Ben,
My heart goes out to everyone you left behind. Just like you I dont hold a traditional belief system. You might have left us in a physical shape but we will continue to feel your presence and your energy. Our dear friend Tina is hurting but I promise to you both Felipe myself and Archer will be there for her and Kayla. We will always have the uttermost gratitude for your love of our son Archer who I know misses you.
My last memory of you is bit hard relive Just a little over a week ago you were rushing to pick my son to provide him shelter as I was being taken to a hospital for my own medical emergency going out of your way. I wish I could thank you in person at least one last time for being there in such a time of need. My gratitude will be eternal dear Ben.
And for all of us who loved and had the opportunity to meet Ben I’m so incredibly sorry for our loss and he will live on in all of our fond memories and we will continue to cherish his life. RIP dear Ben you are part of us and will always will be.
LOVE Batu

Ben was a truly genuinely kind person and in every interaction we could tell how much he cared for those in his life both human and furry. Our dog Gigi loved Ben which was obvious every time she saw him and would run to jump on him. He also recently went completely out of his way to help on a rescue mission for an unwanted golden retriever from Queens. His kind heart always shined through. Sending all our love to Tina and Kayla.
