Obituary of Althea P. Lowe

Althea was born on March 24, 1928 in Garfield NJ. 

The youngest of three daughters to John and Theresa Pyott, her oldest sister was Florence (Kroll) and her middle sister, and best friend, was Rita (Cleeland) of Elmwood Park.  Althea lived in Franklin Lakes for 46 years before moving to Mendham in 1999 and then to Fellowship Village in 2010. 

Althea graduated from Garfield High School in 1945 and then Hackensack Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1949 where she was President of her class.   She then attended Fairleigh Dickinson University and William Paterson College to advance her Nursing career.  Althea started her career  in 1949 as a Pediatric Nurse at Hackensack Hospital as well as being a Maternal and Child Health Nurse for the State Dept of Health in Elmwood Park.  She was a Health instructor at the Elmwood Park night school.   After taking time off to raise her son Ken, Althea returned to the Nursing profession and worked for 17 years as the Charge Nurse at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff.  She was a member of the Franklin Lakes Board of Health for 34 years, she was also President and Honorary member of the Franklin Lakes Women's Club.  After moving to Mendham Althea served as the President of the Mendham Seniors, and was a Deacon at HillTop Presbyterian Church in Mendham.

Althea was also on the Board of the Community Soup Kitchen in Morristown and also prepared and delivered food for Meals on Wheels in Mendham.

Althea passed away on September 1 2022 at Fellowship Village and is survived by her son, Ken, his wife Colleen, three grandchildren Allison, Amie (Ben) and Richard, and two great grandchildren, Logan and Reagan,  She is also survived her beloved niece Jane Kirsch (Ira) and Jane's family Bryan (Casey) and Jackson Kirsch.
