Obituary of Harry G. Sterner

Harry G. Sterner died on Nov. 2, 2011 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. He was 75. Born in Newark, he lived in Union, NJ, Texas, Carteret and Basking Ridge before moving to Mendham 43 years ago. Harry was a 1965 graduate of Rutgers University. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1957 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was stationed at Sampson Air Force Base in Geneva, NJ and later at Lacklank Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. In 1963 he joined the New Jersey National Guard as an Administrative Officer in the Maintenance Squadron 108th Tactical Fighter Wing where he attained the rank of Major. Harry was a Supervisor for AT&T in Newark for 32 years before he retired in 1990. He was a lifetime member of the Mendham Pastime Club. He was also very active with the Vasa Order of America, Linne Lodge #429 where he served as District Master of NJ from 1982-1983. Survivors include his wife Carolyn Larsen Sterner of Mendham, two sons: Scott of Mendham and Stephen of Kendall Park. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Courtney, Kimberley, Zachary, Samantha, Shaun, and Shannen. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-5pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd. Mendham. Funeral Mass Monday 10:30am at St. Joseph Church, Mendham. Entombment Somerset Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum.
