Obituary of Alphra Mary Young Cross

Alphra Mary Young Cross of Berkeley Heights passed away on April 11, 2020.  She was 95.

Alphra is survived by her youngest daughter, Celeste Cross Pellegrino (Bruce,) and her three granddaughters, Sarah, Krista and Hannah. Alphra is predeceased by her beloved husband, Reggie, and eldest daughter, Felice Yvonne.

Alphra was a resident of Berkeley Heights for the past 65 years. She was a devote  member of several churches and loved swimming at the Berkeley Swim Club for over 60 years. She enjoyed her time singing in the choir.

Before moving to Berkeley Heights, Alphra lived in Brooklyn, NY where she was born. She graduated from Adelphi University and taught kindergarten for several years. After teaching, she focused on raising her two daughters and building a home for her family. She volunteered for the church in many ways, from running memorial services to hosting missionaries; she was always willing to offer support. She was a very involved member of the church community.

When asked what she was most proud of, she gladly stated her family and time spent with them. This past Christmas, she traveled to Bermuda to celebrate with her family. She enjoyed traveling many places with her husband and family over the years.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital www.stjude.org or the American Heart Association www.heart.org  in her memory.

The family anticipates a memorial service will take place this summer.
