Obituary of Alfred Anzalone
Alfred “Fred” Anzalone passed away at home in Mendham on March 20, 2020. He was 93.
Born in Kearny to Filippo Anzalone and Anna Maria L’Acara and he lived in Kearny, Dover, and Succasunna before moving to Mendham in 1963.
Fred served in the Army during WWII from 1944-1946 in France and Germany.
He received his BS Degree in Chemistry from Seton Hall University and his Master’s Degree in Library Science from Rutgers University.
Fred worked as a chemist, then as a technical research librarian for Armament Research and Development Center at Picatinny Arsenal for 30 years before retiring in 1983.
Fred was a longtime active member of St. Joseph Church in Mendham. He enjoyed the fellowship of the Feast Committee and the Seniors Group.
Fred’s favorite pastime was working in his yard. It gave him great joy. He loved taking family beach vacations, particularly to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. His family will remember him for passing on his passion for great food, the joy of gathering at the table and for our Italian heritage.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen, his daughter Nancy, two brothers Louis and Leonard and two sisters Jean and Josephine.
He is survived by one son Mark Anzalone of Austin, TX, two daughters; Susan Anzalone of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Linda O'Brien, son in law Patrick O'Brien, and grandchildren Samantha and Liam O'Brien all of Highland's Ranch, Colorado.
A private graveside service was held at Holy Cross Cemetery, N. Arlington. A visitation and funeral liturgy will be held at a later date.
