I did not know Mike very well but we both lived in Chatham growing up so we shared a common bond. Now that we both happen to live in Mendham, running in the same circles, we hoped to develop on that history. I feel sadden by this sudden ending. We look forward to supporting and comforting Kelly and the children in any way possible. The Mauriello's

Laura O'Neill posted a condolence
When I first met Michael, I was a mature (so I thought) college student, and he was 11-years-old. I was nervous and eager to get to know the whole O’Neill clan that summer at Cape Cod. I was quickly amazed by Michael. He had an unending curiosity and enthusiasm. He was not embarrassed to reveal any lack of knowledge by asking a question. Clearly highly intelligent, he could more than keep up with the banter of jokes or academic conversation with his eldest siblings. But more strikingly apparent was his ability to tell the jokes or interject a subtle quip into the conversation. He seemed comfortable and confident, but without even an ounce of brashness. Though content to hang out with the adults, he was overjoyed to be down by the water as ring-leader with his younger cousins.
Fast forward more than a decade later, he came to visit John and me and kids in Massachusetts one weekend. We piled into the car to go touring in downtown Boston, Michael sandwiched in the middle backseat so that all the kids would get their wish to sit next to him. As we drove, he asked for our ideas on how he might persuade his girlfriend, Kelly, to marry him. I knew then and there that she must be someone quite special and amazing.
Though our hearts ache at the loss of his earthly presence, I take comfort in knowing that Michael got to spend the better part of his adult life with his beloved Kelly.
