Elizabeth Farlekas

Obituary of Elizabeth M. Farlekas

After a long and valiant battle with cancer, Elizabeth (Betty) Mary Salvato Farlekas died peacefully on January 28th, 2011, surrounded by family and friends. She will continue to be loved and cherished by her husband of 51 years, George Farlekas, her eight beloved grandchildren, Olivia, Alexandra, Isabella, Gabrielle, Mia, Sophia, Peter, and Jack, and her four dearly loved children, Noradeen, Denise, Michael, and Peter, as well as their spouses, whom she loved dearly, Don, Gary, Regina, and Roxanne. Betty also leaves behind her three siblings, Noradeen, Joseph and Billy and four nieces and nephews, Peter, Lori, John and Michael, for whom she always had a special place in her heart. She touched the hearts of many throughout her life, and leaves behind many, many friends, whom she also loved. Betty is predeceased by her parents Pearl and Carmine (Ganzi) Salvato. Betty was born on January 18, 1938 in the Clason Point area of Bronx, NY. She met George her sophomore year at James Monroe High School. Betty attended Hunter College with George, and completed her education at Trenton State College, after her four children were born. Throughout her life, Betty had many careers, her primary being an amazing mother, as well as PTA President (where she met many of her closest friends), and an English teacher at St. Paul's School in Burlington, NJ, where she was a mother figure to many. She later worked for over 10 years at the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners, and finally at New Jersey's Division of Criminal Justice. At each of her places of employment, she made many lifelong friends that she treasured. Betty's creativity was shown through the many projects she did with her children, her friends from St. Paul's, and finally with her beloved grandchildren. Betty loved going to lunch with her friends, traveling with George, and her time at the beach with her family. Betty especially enjoyed her annual "Couzies' Cookie Bake" with her grandchildren and grand nieces and nephew. She will be missed but never forgotten. A viewing will take place on Friday, February 4th, 2011 at Bailey's Funeral Home in Mendham, NJ (baileyfuneralhomes.com) from 10:00 - 12:30, followed by a mass at St. Joseph's Church in Mendham, NJ at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, Betty requested donations be made in her memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or at www.stjude.org.
