Obituary of Vincent G Capuano

Vincent Capuano, known to many as Vince, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7th, at Holly Manor Nursing Home in Mendham, NJ, after a long illness. Vince was born in West Reading, PA, to Vincent and Annette Capuano. After graduating from Wyomissing High School, he served active duty as a Corporal with the US Marine Corp from 1946-48, at Parris Island, SC. Vince returned from military service to his family’s new home in Brooklyn, NY, and enrolled in Pace College. An avid bowler, he joined Pace’s Bang Aways bowling team and held the high singles game record of 221. He also met his future bride, Therese, at Pace when they took an accounting course together. They married in 1954 and lived in Kew Gardens, NY. In 1963, they bought their first house and moved to Bloomfield, NJ. Vince started his career in public accounting with Haskins & Sells before joining North American Phillips. He rose to the position of Chief Financial Officer at Phillip’s Mepco Electra Division in Morristown, NJ, in 1970. In 1972, he relocated his family to Mendham Boro in Morris County. Vince found an outlet for his favorite activity at the Mendham Past-Time Bowling Club. In 1997, his team—sponsored by Mendham Plywood—won the Morris County Championship. After retiring to Florida with Terry in 1996, Vince enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Hawaii, golfing with his sons who live in FL, hosting family holidays, and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A devoted husband and father, his family will miss his kindness, wisdom, generosity, and sentimental side. Vince is survived by his loving wife of 62-years, Terry; his sons Matthew and Vincent, and daughter Sandla Capuano-Steinkopf; his grandchildren Dana Capuano-Campbell, Damien Capuano, Robert Steinkopf, and Sophia Ellis; great-grandchildren Dominic, Emily and Jacob; and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews who will miss him dearly. Vince is predeceased by his parents and sister, Madeline Capuano-Castelli Visitation for Vincent will be held on Friday Aug. 12, 2016 from 4-8pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham, NJ. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Sat. Aug 13, 2016 at 10:30am, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Main Street, Mendham, followed by a burial service at Hilltop Cemetery. Please consider donations in lieu of flowers in Vincent’s name to the Church of St. Joseph, 6 New Street, Mendham, NJ 07945.
