Obituary of Joan Holenstein

Joan Gould Holenstein passed away peacefully on February 17, 2016 in Bozeman, Montana. She was 82. Born to Clifford and Madeline Gould in Maplewood NJ. As a child she lived in Maplewood, Omaha NE and Montclair. After her marriage, she lived in East Hanover & Mendham, NJ. Her family will remember her as a loving wife, a mother and a grandmother who enjoyed gardening, renovating her 200-year-old residence in Mendham, community involvement, and travel. In Mendham, she served on the Recreation Commission spearheading the creation of the Mendham Girls Softball League. She was on the Old Glory Fund committee that was responsible for raising money for the flags that decorate the center of town on national holidays. Later, she was a member of the Junior Women's Club, serving on their Scholarship committee. She was an election official serving at the polls on election days. She worked for Dr. Goldberg, The Black Horse Inn and Coldwell Banker. Her parents and her husband, Raymond E. Holenstein, predecease her. She is survived by children Betsy Nortrup, Steve Holenstein, Chris Holenstein, Linda Holenstein and their families, as well as her sister, Claire Williams. Visitation will be held Friday, March 4, from 2-4pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham, NJ. www.baileyfuneral.com Private burial will be at Gate of Heaven on Saturday morning.
