Obituary of Muriel Henrietta Johnson

Muriel was born in the Bronx, New York, to Howard and Mamie Bentley on February 3, 1924. She attended Theodore Roosevelt High School, graduating in 1942. On August 14, 1948, she married Robert Theodore Johnson and moved to New Jersey in November of 1952. She retired from the Bernardsville Board of Education in 1993, having worked for more than 24 years as an administrative assistant to the board secretary and as a guidance secretary at Bernards High School. She also worked part time at Macy's in Morristown for more than 10 years, retiring from there in 1990. Muriel was always busy in the kitchen, passionate about cooking and baking, making holidays special for family and friends. She was an active senior, involved with friends at several local senior groups, including the Bedminster/Far Hills Senior Citizens Association, for whom she served over the years as president, vice president, and treasurer. A faithful member of the Peapack Reformed Church in Gladstone, Muriel devoted her Friday mornings to the preparation of the sanctuary for Sunday worship and she enjoyed faith and fellowship during the monthly prayer luncheons. She also knitted prayer shawls and made chocolate candy on special occasions for the children of the congregation. Muriel is survived by her children, Robert, Ralph and Nancy Finson, and by two adult grandsons. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 11, from 2-5pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 176 Main Street, Peapack, NJ. Funeral Service Friday at 11 am at the Peapack Reformed Church. www.baileyfuneral.com In lieu of flowers, donations in Muriel's memory may be made to the Peapack Reformed Church, PO Box 253, Gladstone, NJ 07934.
