Obituary of Matthew Reid McMahon

Matthew Reid McMahon June 25, 1980 - March 11, 2015 Matthew Reid McMahon, 34, who resided in Flemington, formerly of Basking Ridge, NJ, passed away unexpectedly on March 11, 2015. He worked at Ludlow Heating & Cooling in Bernardsville for more than a decade. Matthew, a former Captain of the Basking Ridge Fire Company No. 1, was a man of many passions, including athletics, community service, and animal rights. Matt was an accomplished athlete at Ridge High School and an honor-roll student, continuing his education at The College of New Jersey, where he also played football. In addition, Matthew was a member and past president of the Greenbrook Golf Association and Golf Club, where he played recreationally with friends and competed in tournaments. Matthew was good with his hands—he enjoyed drawing and sketching in his free time and could fix anything. Matthew enjoyed raising three Pitbulls with his long-time girlfriend, Erin Lusk. He was a man of laughter and love; he was fiercely loyal and passionate within his relationships. Matthew’s loved ones will deeply miss his sense of humor and the joy he experienced in making others laugh, along with his eagerness and willingness to extend himself for the sake of others. He had an unmatched ability to connect within any group, making others feel completely at ease with his bright smile. Matthew could speak to any topic and surprised many with his knowledge on a broad range of subjects. He is survived by his mother, Cathleen McMahon; his three brothers, Edward, Sean and Scott McMahon; his sister, Deborah White; their spouses; his three nieces and two nephews and a wealth of extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Edward McMahon. The funeral will be conducted from Bailey Funeral Home-Peapack, 176 Main Street, Peapack, NJ (for GPS Purposes use Gladstone, NJ 07934). A funeral Mass will be held 10:30am on Monday, March 16, 2015 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 249 Bebout Avenue, Stirling, NJ followed by interment at Restland Memorial Park, 77 Deforest Avenue, East Hanover, NJ. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, individuals send donations to Villalobos Rescue Center P.O.
