Obituary of Elizabeth J Petrillo

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Elizabeth J. Petrillo. Betty passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, January 5 th at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ. Born to Frank R and Catherine M (Mahoney) Engard in Philadelphia, PA, Betty moved in 1967 with her husband and their three children, to Colonia, NJ. Betty led a fulfilling life as a housewife, Executive Assistant to the CEO at Squire Corrugated (Linden, NJ), Director of Development at the ARC of Somerset County (Manville, NJ), VP of Marketing at Max Spann Realtors (Bedminster, NJ) and ultimately successful entrepreneur, founding her own public relations business, Platinum at Far Hills (Far Hills, NJ). While serving as Director of Development, Betty led numerous fundraising events raising millions of dollars for the ARC and in support of people with developmental disabilities. During her tenure in real estate, Betty also obtained her professional real estate license and was a certified auctioneer. She was very well known in Somerset Country where she has lived for over 35 years - an active member of St. Brigid’s RC Church in Peapack, NJ, a volunteer for the Somerset County VNA and Somerset Medical Center.


Betty is predeceased by her parents, Frank and Catherine Engard, as well as her brother Thomas Engard. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Joseph T. Petrillo and their three children and spouses - Elizabeth (Beth) and Richard Perricone, Jay Michael and Janet Petrillo, and Scott Petrillo and Salvatore Chiarelli. Betty was blessed with five grandchildren and their spouses – Mario and Julia Perricone, Emily and Michael Zinno, Charlie and Eva Petrillo, Frank Petrillo and Henry Petrillo, as well as three great grandchildren - John Richard and Lucy Grace Zinno and Luca Ronnie Perricone. She had many extended family members in the US, Ireland and Australia, and holds both US and Ireland citizenship. In her spare time Betty enjoyed traveling around the world, cooking, entertaining and being with her family. Betty will be dearly missed by all.


Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 10:30 am at St. Brigid'sRC Church, located at 129 Main Street, Peapack, NJ, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am.
