Obituary of Joan Palmieri

Joan C. Palmieri passed away on November 20, 2023. She was 89 years old.

Born in Mendham, NJ, in the house her father built, to parents Arthur and Mabel (Hildebrandt) Chambers, Joan was a lifelong resident of Mendham and parishioner of the Mendham United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Morristown High School, class of 1951, where she first met her future husband, Tony.

Joan worked for the Schlosser-Lewis Insurance Agency in Morristown for 27 years. She was active in her church community and played piano for Sunday services until very recently. In addition to her family, church, and work, Joan poured her love and creative energy into her many passions. She was an avid gardener and filled her home and greenhouse with beautiful plants that she raised, especially her favorite, orchids. As a musician, in addition to playing piano, she sang in many choirs over the years, sharing her voice with the community and instilling her love of music into generations of her family. As an artist, her many creations in needlepoint, crochet, and knitting fill her home and the homes of those she loved. She loved to cook, bringing her delicious dinners and desserts to countless holidays and ordinary days alike. And she raised many pets over the years, including her current dog, Molly.

Joan is predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend of 48 years, Anthony J. Palmieri, Jr., sister Virginia Sharp and brother Arthur “Bus” Chambers. She is survived by her sons David Palmieri and his wife Laura, Dr. Don Krudop and his wife Susan, daughter Sharon Twitchell and her husband Dave, sister-in-law Theresa Provenza, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 26, from 1-5 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd, Mendham NJ 07945. A service will take place on Monday, November 27, at 11 AM at Mendham United Methodist Church, followed by interment at Hilltop Cemetery, Mendham. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory may be made to the Mendham United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
