Obituary of Edward William Thomson

Edward Thomson passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, May 27, 2023. He was 93 years old.

Born in Merrimack, MA, to parents Robert H. and Mary (Hennessey) Thomson, Edward lived in Cranford, NJ, and Danville, CA, before settling in Morristown nearly 40 years ago. He was a man of immense faith and was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Mendham.

Edward was a voracious reader, a history buff, an avid Red Sox fan, always quick with a joke, and an asset to his sports trivia team. Above all else, he was a family man. Edward adored his family and was very close with them. He loved his family trips to Disney and reveled in holidays spent together. His family meant the world to him. He was an attentive father and a doting grandfather.

Edward is predeceased by his brother, Robert Thomson, sister-in-law Suzanne Monahan, and brother-in-law David Danielson. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joan Thomson, daughter Colleen (Bob) Tucker, son Rob (Kerry) Thomson of Hingham, MA, daughter Kelly (Todd) Freitag of Long Valley, NJ, brother James Thomson, sister Mary Janet Wasky, sister and brother-in-law Maureen and Charles Casey, and grandchildren, Ryan, Payton, Quinn, Casey, Mackenzie, Natalie, Claire and Bobby, and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 31, at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Church, West Main St, Mendham, immediately followed by interment at Hilltop Cemetery, Mendham. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward’s memory may be made to Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice or Sarah’s Fight for Hope Foundation.
