Obituary of Pasquale "Pat" Martinelli

Mendham - Pasquale "Pat" Martinelli died on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover after a brief illness. He was 87. Born in Montclair on October 25, 1921, he was a resident of Convent Station for many years before moving to Mendham Township 21 years ago. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. Mr. Martinelli was the sexton for St. John's Lutheran Church in Summit for over 24 years before retiring in 2007. Prior to that he was employed by Hollow Hill Farm in Convent Station as a caretaker and chauffer for over 32 years. He was an avid bowler, and was the president of the Tuesday Night League of Plaza Lanes in Madison. He was also a huge sports enthusiast, and a fan of the New York Yankees baseball team. Mr. Martinelli was predeceased by his wife Rose Sodano in 2001, and also predeceased by a brother and two sisters. Survivors include his son Joseph and his wife Pam of Roxbury; his daughter Marie Griffin and her husband Stephen of Long Valley; four grandchildren, Joseph, Ashley, Matthew, and B. J.; four great-grandchildren, Tristen, Mia, Darian, and Giavanna; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be from the funeral home on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's R. C. Church, West Main Street, Mendham, NJ 07945. interment will be at the Mendham Hilltop Cemetery immediately following Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Martinelli are requested by the family to the Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, 140 Littleton Road, Parsippany, NJ 07054.
