Obituary of Dabney Draper Wilschut
Dabney Ames Draper Wilschut
June 12, 1962 – October 2, 2016
Hard shell, huge heart, that was Dabney. You never questioned where you stood as “The Dabber” was not one to hold back her opinion on anything or anybody. However, when she loved, she truly loved. Dabney was born in Newton MA, grew up on Cape Cod, attended school in Atlanta, worked in New York City, and settled in Basking Ridge. She had a passion for the arts. You would often find her doodling on a piece of paper, sitting behind her easel creating some abstract painting, redecorating her beloved Cape home, or taking thousands of photographs, which if you were the subject of, you would strangely never get to see. However, what Dabney loved most was being a mom to Ty. Dab fought hard for more than 13 years in her long battle with Multiple Myeloma. Her motivation was to see Ty graduate. Unfortunately, despite her fighting spirit, she could not hold on any longer and passed away peacefully on October 2, 2016 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband Roy Wilschut and her son Tyler Lee Wilschut of Basking Ridge, three sisters, Lavinia Hallowell Draper and Pamela Anne Draper of West Palm Beach and Emiko Goshima of Kobe Japan, her niece Valentina Gonzalez-Draper of West Palm Beach, and her father James Sumner Draper also of West Palm Beach. A private Service of Committal will be held in Canton, MA. A “Dabber style” Celebration of Life is planned for this summer on Cape Cod.
