Obituary of Georgette Oestreicher

Georgette Oestreicher passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Bernardsville, NJ on June 19, 2016. She was 74. Born in Harlem, NY, she grew up in the Bronx, NY and moved to Barrington, IL before moving to Bernardsville, NJ in 1979. She attended St. Alphonsus Secretarial High School, NY and worked at McCann Erickson as a Media Buyer where she met Tony, her beloved husband of 39 years. At the age of 50, she graduated from Rutgers University College and holds a Master's Degree in Theology from the College of St. Elizabeth. Georgette was a vibrant member of her community, and her strong faith, bright smile, and gentle grace benefited parishioners of all ages at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. She worked tirelessly with the Catholic Charities Ozanam Family Shelter for Women and Children in Edison, NJ for the past twenty years, sponsoring monthly dinners, children's events, Christmas in July, and more. She also dedicated much time and treasure to Africa Surgery in Morristown on behalf of women's issues and children's medical care. She is remembered as a generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who advocated for education and social justice, fought against hunger and poverty, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to provide food, clothing, and shelter to those in need. She is predeceased by her husband Tony Oestreicher and her sister Tula Belton. She is survived by her children: Lisa and Lou Williams of Vienna, VA, Cara and Ted Latham of Wayne, PA, and Jack and Catharine Oestreicher of Katonah, NY. She is also survived by her two sisters Barbara and Phil Torina of Larchmont, NY and Maria and Bob LaRocca of Boynton Beach, FL. Her joy shines through her 12 grandchildren: Peter, Mark, Caroline, Grace, Elizabeth, Margaret, Marie, Allison, Charlie, John, Walter, and Audrey. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 24th from 4-7pm at Bailey Funeral Home, Mendham. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, 10am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Bernardsville, NJ. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge.
