Obituary of Fredrick T Vanacore

Fredrick Thomas Vanacore of Roxiticus Rd., Mendham, New Jersey peacefully passed from this earth of natural causes at the age of 88 on May 23rd at his home in Mendham. He was born and raised in New York City. Son of Alfonso and Emma Vanacore, he was a graduate of the Stuyvesant High School of Science and New York University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of seventeen and served for the duration of World War II as an infantryman, a weapons specialist and then in the intelligence services as a code breaker before being dropped behind enemy lines in Yugoslavia in a special operation at the end of the war. After the war he completed his education at NYU where he was admitted to Phi Beta Kappa. He married Constance Boardman in 1954 and established a home in Mendham, New Jersey. In 1956 he joined the Ralston Engine Company #1 and served as a volunteer fireman for 60 years. He was a member of the Society of Illustrators in New York City and an honorary member of the Explorers Club. He was a member of the Somerset Art Association and a founding and active member of the Green Barn Art Group. He was a long time member of the Kempshall Mountain Club in Long Lake, NY where he maintained a summer home. Fredrick Vanacore is survived by his wife of 62 years Constance Eleanor Vanacore, his two children Patricia Vanacore and Thomas Vanacore, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Anita Mittelmark, her daughter Alyson Dempke and her two children. A gathering is planned for June 25th at the Ralston Firehouse in Mendham, NJ from 12-3pm with a service at 1:00pm. A celebration of his life will take place on August 6 at the Adirondack Hotel in Long Lake, NY. Donations in his memory may be made to the Ralston Engine Co. No.1 in Mendham, NJ and to the Long Lake Public Library in Long Lake, NY.
