Obituary of Warren E. Boin

Warren E. Boin Sr passed away peacefully on March 4, 2016 at his home in Mendham Twp. He was 96 and enjoyed an active and independent lifestyle throughout his entire life. Born in Brooklyn, NY he was a 1942 graduate of Syracuse University and served in the Army from 1944 - 1946. He developed a life long passion for arts & crafts at the age of 11. He started as a counselor at Kamp Kill Kare in St Albans, VT. In 1940, together with his father Samuel and mother Florence, he founded Boin Arts and Crafts in Morristown, NJ which he ran with his brother before retiring in 1990 after over 50 years in business. Warren also loved singing starting with his high school quartet called the Mellow Masters. In 1968 he discovered barbershop singing and joined the Dapper Dans of Harmony in Livingston, NJ. which went on to win the International Championship in 1970. He also was a member of the Gondoliers barbershop quartet which performed at many local events including the Chester fair. Upon his retirement, he spent the next 25 years teaching arts and crafts while circling the world on cruises with Norma his wife of 66 years. At the same time he was a freelance model and was featured in ads for Brooks Brothers, Merrill Lynch, Hilton, AT&T and Flo Max. He was a longtime member of the Salvation Army and served on the Board of Directors. He was also active in the Exchange Club in Morristown for many years. He was predeceased by his wife Norma J. in 2012 and his brother Robert in 1991. Survivors include two sons; Warren Boin, Jr. of Baltimore, MD and Whitney Boin of Westchester, NY, and daughter Jennifer Boin-Getz of Miami, Fl. and their respective wives and partners Ellen, Theresa and Julio. He is also survived by his six grandchildren Warren, III, Caroline, Dakota, Sterling, Maxwell and Monroe. Interment will be private in Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover.
