Obituary of Craig Frederick Meyer
Craig Frederick Meyer, 57, passed away on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016 at home in Peapack NJ, following a 14-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Craig served as Chief of Police, Bedminster Township, NJ and alpha team leader in the Somerset County Emergency Response (SWAT) team.
Craig was born in Summit, NJ to Jean Meyer Trusheim and the late Charles C. Meyer on May 28, 1958. He lived in Peapack-Gladstone, Basking Ridge, and Far Hills before settling back in Peapack. He graduated from Bernards High School in 1976 where he was co-captain of the football team with his identical twin brother, the late Charles R. “Chuck” Meyer. He attended several colleges and universities and obtained a B.S. in criminal justice.
He founded Meyer Brothers Excavating & Construction Co. Inc. in 1979 with his late brother Chuck. He began his stellar career in law enforcement in 1995 and ascended through the ranks of the Bedminster Township Police Department. A highly decorated officer and leader, he rose to the position of Chief in 2014.
Craig was an honorable man of boundless courage and powerful work ethic. His loyalty to family and friends was renowned. He was a man you could turn to and count on. And many did.
Craig loved fishing with son Grayson and wife Kaki and any time down at “The Shore”. Family time was his greatest joy.
Craig is survived by his wife Katherine “Kaki” Meyer, his 9 year old son Grayson C. Meyer, his mother Jean Trusheim (and her husband Frank E. Trusheim, Jr.), his sisters Linda J.M. Tintle and Diane Pasquarello, sisters-in-law Deborah Meyer, Wendy Schuyler, and Kathleen Schuyler, brothers-in-law Dean Tintle, Anthony Pasquarello, John Schuyler, and Graham Schuyler, nephews Craig C. Meyer, (and his wife Julia), Sean W. Meyer, Colin Schuyler, Patrick Schuyler, and Graham Schuyler Jr. and nieces Dominique Pasquarello, Blair Schuyler, Hannah Grace Schuyler, mother-in-law Jane Dickson and her husband the Right Reverend Alex Dickson, and grand-nephew William Pasquarello. He also leaves behind many friends that considered him a beloved brother.
Memorial visitation will be held on Monday Feb. 8, 2016 from 11am-4pm and 6pm-9pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 176 Main St. Peapack, NJ, 07977. A funeral service will be conducted at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church by the Reverend Kent Walley on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a 529 college savings plan has been established for his son. Contributions may be made to the Grayson C. Meyer College Fund, 6 U.S. Hwy 206, Far Hills NJ 07931.
