My wife and I met Joanne and Pascal when we all lived in Louisville, KY. We became friends and remained so even when we all left Louisville. Joanne sure was an embodiment of strength, this was a woman who despite all she was going through still found it in her to be optimistic and give hope to the rest of us.
Her life showed us what it is like to be a mother and wife who took her task seriously even when she was sick.
On behalf of my family I offer our heartfelt condolence to the Montilus family. I say to Pascal (Baba Ibeji) and the children that God will give you all the strength to bear the loss of your beautiful wife and mother and the fortitude to carry on.

I wish I had words that could help easy your pain - but I am sure I do not.
I knew Joanne from chatting at various birthday parties, etc. over the years. I always enjoyed our conversations and loved her insight into the seemingly mundane that is discussed at those types of events.
We will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Pascal, Malcom, Julian and The Beautiful Girls,
When Joanne and I met for the first time, we were at a Christmas Party. Even before we were introduced I was certain that she must be Julian's and Malcolm's mom - they share the same fabulous smile. I remember regretting that I had not met her many years earlier. We chatted like old friends. Julian and Caleb, my son, are classmates and sport buddies. There was plenty of fodder! The evening ended and I left refreshed as we had shared smiles and trials, However, what I remember most from that evening was this: When I asked Joanne how she coped so well in the midst of such adversity, she enthused, " Pascal and the children. The love I feel for them and the way they love me back, that carries me."
Joanne left a legacy you that must make you exceptionally proud.
May the peace of God that surpasses all understanding, be yours today and always.
Sincerely,
The Lucas'

May you all experience God as your refuge and strength, a very present help at such a time as this. He will wipe away your tears. He will heal every brokenness. He will hold you in his comforting arms.
For everyone that believes, Joanne's passing is not death to die but death as a gateway Into the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus has died so that Joanne can go home in glory in the triumph of her story. I am grateful to have known her all these years and to celebrate her precious story which stars Pascal, Malcolm, Julian, Gabriella, and Fiona.
Joanne lived life abundantly and she has fought the good fight, she has finished the race, and she has kept the faith. May the joy of the Lord be your strength and the strength of the Lord be your joy.
Joanne is now a part of the great heavenly cloud of witnesses and she is praying, cheering and rooting hard for all of us. She is a spiritual warrior who is more than a Conqueror!
Prepare yourself for a joyful reunion when the trumpet sounds and Jesus returns!
Peace, love & joy

It is with deep sadness that I send these thoughts. I taught with Joanne in Seth Boyden before going to South Mountain. Joanne was one of the kindest, warmest and bravest women I have ever known. She thought more about others than herself. She helped all of us put things in perspective, and focus on the gifts in life rather than the pain. She was a very special person who saw the good in every child. She touched every child she taught, and every teacher who had the honor of working with her.
I am out of town this week, but my thoughts and prayers are with her family whom she loved so much.

Joanne was such a lovely woman who battled so hard for so long. Her graciousness, calm and wisdom are what I relish about her. One story that makes me smile is what she shared as she was hosting a Mendham High Soccer Pasta Party (whether was it Julian's freshman or sophomore year, I can't recall). We were talking about kids and chores and such and she shared that she had each of her kids do their own laundry every week. I was struck by how much that conveyed about Joanne. Patience and Persistence- as it must have taken a large investment of time to get them to do it and do it right. Foresight- fending for oneself is such a wonderful skill to instill in one's children. Faith- the conviction that her kids would get it right and not cause Joanne extra grief, work or expense due to poor workmanship. Teaching- which means she must have been very good and coaching, which takes us back to Patience and Persistence.
Out sympathies go out to the Montilus family for the loss of a lovely woman and a wonderful mother. Her battle, so bravely fought, has been noble and in my mind she has won as the fruits of her labors are 4 lovely children who will carry on her memory and legacy. Peace to Joanne and love to the Montilus family from the Wintz Family
