Obituary of Robert Welch

Robert Welch passed away peacefully on August 30, 2015 at Holly Manor in Mendham. He was 85. Born in Rockland, ME he has lived in Mendham since 1974. Bob served in the United State Army from 1948-1951. He was Stationed in Austria and in later years he and his wife returned with the organization United States Forces Austria for the 40 and 50 year anniversary of the liberation of Austria. He began his career in Banking after the war and worked at several NJ banks including First Morris Bank, Sayrevillle Savings Bank and then he retired from Penn Federal Savings Bank in West Orange in 1992. Bob met his wife Mary on a Berman Cruise in 1971 and they married in 1972. They took many cruises over the years on many types of boats and ships. He volunteered many years at Morristown Medical Center as a courier and in the Infection Control Dept. He was a lifetime member and past treasurer of the Mendham Pastime Club where he bowled many years with the club. In 1996-1997 his team won the Morris County Assoc. Team Event for Gross Score. He was also the treasurer of the Cosma Lake Assoc. and a member of the American Legion Post 315 in Mendham. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary DeVito Welch, two brothers-in-law Domenic DeVito and Daniel (Janice) DeVito, one niece Cara(Chad) Athman and one nephew Daniel (Jess) DeVito. He is also survived by his grand- nephew Joseph DeVito and his grand-niece Adrianna DeVito. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd, Mendham. A celebration of his life will be held at 4pm in the funeral home. Cremation will be private.
