Dear Sheryl and Alicia, Your mother has been in my life since 1951. She was 18 and I was I7. Her birthday was January 23rd and mine January 22nd. She was spending her summer in Mattituck and I was working in nearby Camp Immaculata. I've spent overnights in Scarsdale, Mendham, and Mattituck over the years. Although we did not see each other often we kept close via mail and long phone calls. I was kept up on her health and the numerous and constant repairs to her beloved summer house in Mattituck. All these memories flood me now and while I feel so fortunate to have had your mother in my life. I feel so sad that this is over for me. She was a remarkable woman. However we remain united in a different way now. This is my consolation. I send my sincerest condolences to both of you, and your uncle and hope you will find your relationship to your mother living on through all your memories and the lifetime of gifts she bestowed on you by the person she was. Janet was a precious friend and I will miss her. We were the same age but she was such a caretaker. I felt that she was always taking care of me. Janet was truly a lady, she was kind, and thought of others first.
