Obituary of Mary Ann Thomas
Mary Ann 'Mickey' Williamson Thomas: Loved Children and Animals
Mickey Thomas, 88, of Mendham passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Morristown Medical Center on July 16th. Devoted spouse, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to countless numbers of people, Mickey passed on the way she lived-with dignity, humility and an unselfish nature rare in this day and age.
Born in Morristown, New Jersey on October 11, 1926, Mickey grew up in her family's home on Western Avenue and graduated from Morristown High School in 1945. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church of Morristown and a member of the church choir for many years. She later taught Sunday school to church youth for over 25 years and continued to participate as an active member of the church in a variety of ways.
In 1950, she married her husband, Thomas S. Thomas, III, after they met on the Morristown Post Office steps two years earlier. They settled in nearby Hanover Township in 1954 and later moved to Mendham in 1964 where they raised their family of five children, and where Mickey lived until now.
Mickey was a tireless friend and counselor to many and always made time to share supportive advice in numerous ways to all around her. She was wonderfully engaging as a friend and mother and grandmother and aunt to everyone who knew her and possessed an ability to convey feelings of optimism, hopefulness and love to those in need. She volunteered generously for various organizations throughout her life, as well as babysitting and pet sitting for many children and dogs.
Her husband of 58 years, Thomas S. Thomas III, and her son, John Parker Thomas, preceded Mickey in death. Her son, Thomas S. Thomas IV and his wife, Katherine, of Yarmouth, Maine; son, Evan Thomas and his wife, Maribeth, of Brookside, NJ; daughter Priscilla Foerster and her husband, Timothy, of Mendham, NJ and son Glenn Thomas of Dresden, Maine, survive her. Her deceased son's life partner, Gale Ross, of South Bristol, Maine survives her, as well as do 12 grandchildren, Bryan and Courtney Foerster, Bailey and Sara Thomas, Amanda, Christine and Megan Thomas, Victoria Farnsworth, Tiffany and Melanie Thomas and Jack and Annie Sillin.
Visitation will be Friday, August 7, from 6-8 pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, Mendham. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of The Presbyterian Church of Morristown on Saturday, August 8 at 11:00 pm with a reception to follow for family and friends in Mendham. Donations in Mickey's memory, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Presbyterian Church of Morristown. Baileyfuneral.com
