Obituary of Robert J. Connell
Robert J. Connell passed away peacefully on February 5, 2015 at the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice in Fredon, NJ. He was 86.
Born in Jersey City, NJ he lived in the Brookside section of Mendham Township for 20 years before moving to Long Valley 28 years ago.
He was a Veteran of World War II and Reconstruction, Pacific Theater, serving in the 13th U.S. Army Air Force in the Philippines and Japan. He attained the rank of sergeant and was head mechanic of the motor pool.
Bob was the owner of Jupiter Radio and Television in Orange and later in West Orange for 41 years before retiring in 1991.
His family will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He leaves behind many who were lifelong friends who shared his love of travel and comradery.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Gertrude Long Connell.
He is survived by one son, Robert Connell (Sheryl) of Newtown, Pa, three daughters; Theresa McIntyre (Felix) of Sparta, Sharon Viscardi of Stanhope and Janet Cillo (John) of Great Meadows, and one sister Grace Morris of Jackson, NJ. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Brian McIntyre (Jennifer), Michael McIntyre, Jamie and Samantha Viscardi, Shannon and Rob Connell and Ashton Cillo and two great grandchildren, Patrick and Emily McIntyre.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 10, 2015 from 3-7pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday 10:30am at St. Joseph Church, Mendham. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Karen Ann Quinlan Memorial Foundation.
