Obituary of Mary Alicia Callan SCC

Sister Mary Alicia Callan, SCC (Maureen Frances Callan), Sister of Christian Charity, entered eternal life, following a short illness on Sunday, Nov. 16th, 2014 at Mallinckrodt Convent, Mendham, NJ. Sister was 69 years of age. Born in Kingston, PA, Sister was the daughter of Michael and Alice (Brennan) Callan. She entered the community of the Sisters of Christian Charity on September 3, 1967. Sister made her final vows on August 15, 1979. Throughout the course of her life Sister Mary Alicia was engaged in the field of Catholic Education serving as both an elementary and secondary school teacher in schools in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. After retiring from full time educational ministry at Morris Catholic High School, Denville, NJ in June 2014, she was assigned as a part time librarian in a local Catholic elementary school in NJ. Sister Mary Alicia is survived by her sister, Suzanne Callan Rhodes, Court Dale, PA and a cousin Betty Jo Triano, Horseheads, NY. Her parents and her brother in law Robert preceded her in death. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Mallinckrodt Convent, 350 Bernardsville Rd., Mendham, on Friday, Nov 21st, 2014 at 10:30am. Viewing will take place at the Convent on Thursday Nov. 20th from 2-8pm with a Wake Service of Evening Prayer at 7pm. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Mallinckrodt Convent, Mendham following the liturgy. In lieu of Flowers, donations in Sister's memory may be made to the sisters of Christian Charity, Building Project. Bailey Funeral Home of Mendham is handling arrangements. www.baileyfuneral.com
