Obituary of Catharine B Hoffmann

Catharine Baldwin Hoffmann passed away in her sleep at age 93 on May 27th in Basking Ridge, NJ. Born in Wilmington,DE she was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, William L. Hoffmann. Known as Pat by many friends, Catharine lived in East Orange for 45 years before moving to New Vernon, NJ. Bill and Catharine later retired to Bridgehampton, NY for many happy years before returning to Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge in 1997. Catharine was a graduate of East Orange High School and Hood College, in Frederick, MD and was a state diving champion in 1932. She was a gifted writer. Her many published stories and poems delighted generations of readers. Catharine was an enthusiastic volunteer for many community organizations including Morristown Memorial Hospital of which she was on the Board of Trustees and President of the Women's Association. She served on the Board of Trustees of Hood College and she was President of The Women's Club of Orange. She is survived by four children: John (& Nancy) of Spring Island, SC and NY, Anne Moore (&Richard) of Mendham, NJ, James (& Martha) of Cambridge MA, and Ellen Wallop (&Michael) of Brooklyn; seven grandchildren &three Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Robert H. B. Baldwin, of Hobe Sound, FL, Princeton,NJ and Bridgehampton. Funeral services will be held at St Mark's Church, Main Street, Mendham at 11 am on Monday June 1st. Visiting hours will be from 4pm to 7pm at Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd, Mendham on Sunday May 31. There will also be a service at St. Ann's Church, Bridgehampton in June. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Catharine B Hoffmann - Jane Swift Moore Memorial Fund for children's literature at Mendham Borough Library, 10 Hilltop Road, Mendham NJ 07945.
