Obituary of Catherine Rita Dunne
Catherine Rita Dunne passed away peacefully on Oct. 13, 2014 at Holly Manor Center in Mendham, NJ. She was 95.
Born in Troy, NY to Francis and Mary Jo (Sullivan) Glasheen, she lived with her husband and children at various Navy installations during her husband’s Navy career. In 1955, at the conclusion of her husband’s Navy career, she returned with her family to Troy, NY where she lived for over 30 years and then retired to the family’s home in West Harwich, Mass in 1987. In 2007 she relocated to Mendham.
She received a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education from Russell Sage College and later received her Masters Degree in Public Health from the State University of New York.
Mrs. Dunne was a Physical Education Teacher for the physically and emotionally disabled at the Wilton Developmental Center in Wilton, NY and prior to that at the New York State Wynantskill Center for Girls in Wynantskill, NY.
She was an active and longtime member of Holy Trinity R.C. Church in West Harwich, Mass., where she spent significant time assisting financially distressed families in the West Harwich area.
Her family will remember her as a loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren and relatives and as a person who was focused on helping those in her community who were financially, physically or mentally challenged.
Her husband CDR William R. Dunne, USN (ret) died in 1986. She is also predeceased by her brother William Glasheen.
She is survived by her three sons; Patrick W. Dunne (Diane) of Fairfax, VA,
Timothy R. Dunne (Colleen) of Winter Park, CO and Michael J. Dunne (Karen) of Mendham, NJ, seven grandchildren; Erin Dunne Donofrio (Michael), Patrick W. Dunne, Jr (Amy), Casey Dunne, Catherine Dunne, William W. Dunne (Anne), Meghan Dunne O’Neil (Conor) and Kerry Dunne. She is also survived by her five great grandchildren; Nathan Donofrio, Henry, Sullivan and Murphy Dunne, and Catherine O’Neil.
Visitation will be held on Monday Oct. 20, 2014 from 9-10:30am at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham, NJ. Funeral Mass Monday 11am at St. Joseph Church, Mendham. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
