Obituary of George James Richards

George James Richards, of Bedminster, NJ, died peacefully at home on August 11, 2014. He was 86. The only child of the late George Elmer and Catherine Morton Richards, he was born March 3, 1928 in Santa Rosa, CA. George attended the University of Southern California, and graduated from the University of Virginia in 1950. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. After college, George enlisted in the US Army and served in Korea, where he taught courses to both Koreans and Americans. After the army, George worked for IBM, Reynolds Metals, White Weld & Co, as well as Lippincott and Margulies, where as a vice-president he provided consulting services pertaining to marketing and design. George also worked in real estate, volunteered for the Far Hills Race Meet, was on the board of The Clarence Dillon Library, and was very active in the AA program, where he mentored many. Throughout his life, George had an interest in design and architecture, and a keen eye for detail and aesthetics. He enjoyed being with his family and Thanksgiving was always a special holiday. George is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Farrelly Richards, two daughters and their families; Robert and Catherine Richards Olney, Aidan and Elspeth of Freeport, ME, and Johann and Sarah Richards Thalheim, George, Philip, Hans Christian and Ingrid of Old Greenwich, CT.
