Obituary of David R. Nalven

David R. Nalven died Friday May 23, 2014 at home in Mendham after a valiant and heroic six year battle with stage IV lung cancer. He was 86. Born in Queens, NY he lived in Newtown, CT and Plainfield, NJ before moving to Mendham 34 years ago. Mr. Nalven earned a BS in Chemical Engineering at Penn State and a MS in Environmental Engineering from Rutgers. For many years he worked utilizing his expertise to insure the integrity of environmental standards practiced by AT&T. His family will remember him as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid fossil hunter and collector sharing his love by taking his children, grandchildren and friends collecting at many sites throughout New Jersey. His passion resulted in a position as volunteer Geology Curator at the Morris Museum for the past 24 years. He enjoyed playing tennis. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Goldie Ellis Nalven, his children; Peter Nalven (Ellen) of Greenbrook, NJ, Laura Nalven (Tom) of Millington, NJ, Emily Montan (Kristen) of Oakland, CA, Steven Ellis (Debra) of Amherst, MA and Karen Davis (Derek) of Bloomfield Hills, MI, and two brothers Daniel and Lionel Nalven. He is also missed by his 6 grandchildren, Hilary Nalven, Vincent Troyani, Dana Nalven, Nathan Ellis, Zachary Ellis and Joshua Davis. He was predeceased by his daughter Claudia Troyani. A memorial service is being held on Sunday July 27 at 2pm at the Morris Museum. Please come and share. Donations to the Morris Museum or the Carol G.
