Obituary of Lawrence Paul Vollmuth
Lawrence Paul Vollmuth, 93 years old, of Columbus, North Carolina, died March 18, 2014 at Tryon Estates where he was a resident. He was born on August 8, 1920, in Essex County, New Jersey, the oldest son of Lawrence B. and Adele T. Vollmuth and grew up in Union, New Jersey.
He was a graduate of Newark College of Engineering with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed, over a period of 50 years, as an Engineer, Plant Manager, V.P. of Manufacturing and President of several firms. He retired in 1986 as Corporate Vice President of Atkore International, in Chicago, Illinois. After retirement, he remained active as a consultant and served on the Board of several companies.
Before moving to Pennsylvania and then to Wheaton, Illinois, he and his wife resided in Mendham, NJ where they raised their family and were parishioners of St. Joseph's R.C. Church. After retiring in Illinois, he and his wife, Lucille, moved back to Flat Rock, North Carolina, in 1989. He owned his own plane and was an avid pilot, car enthusiast and bridge player. He was a member of the Etowah Golf Club and a faithful parishioner of Immaculate Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lucille Kathryn Vollmuth, two sons; James of Mendham, NJ and Jeffrey of Winfield, Illinois, three daughters; Caryn Forgatch of North Palm Beach, Florida, formerly of Mendham, NJ, Christine Kianka of Enterprise, Alabama, and Peggy Vollmuth-Madden of Mt. Bethel, Pennsylvania, formerly of Chester, NJ. He was a grandfather of ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is survived by his brother Robert of Medfield, Massachusetts.
A Mass of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Mendham, NJ at 11AM. Interment is at Hollywood Cemetery in Union, NJ.
