Obituary of Helen M. Noble

Helen Marie "Rie" Noble passed away peacefully at home on April 24, 2014. She was 73.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham., N.J. Funeral Mass is on Tuesday, April 29, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Mendham. Interment is at Hilltop Cemetery, Mendham. 

Born in Phoenixville, Pa., Rie moved to Brookside, N.J., in 1963. She was a 1962 graduate of Rosemont College. Rie was well-known in the golfing world, winning numerous local and state championships, including New Jersey State Women's Amateur in 1971. She was honored as Philadelphia Sportswoman of the Year in 1961.

She was a longtime member of Morris County Golf Club, where she was a six-time women's club champion. She was also active in the Mendham Township First Aid Squad.

She and her late husband, James Day Noble Sr., owned Zee Medical Service in New Vernon, N.J., for many years before retiring.
Rie was predeceased by her husband, James Day Noble Sr., and her brother, Peter Weiland.

She is survived by her son, James Day Noble Jr., and his wife, Kristin, of Chester, N.J.; two daughters, Anne Noble Smith and her husband, Michael, of Chatham, N.J., and Karen Noble and her husband, Roger Grossman, of Chatham; three brothers, Frank, Don, and Doug Weiland; and one sister, Nancy Lanahan. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren.
