Obituary of Donald N. Bockoven

Donald Bockoven of Long Valley passed away April 21, 2014. Donald Norman Bockoven, Sr. was born and raised in Mendham, NJ. He attended the local school and graduated from Morristown High School Class of 1950. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He served with the 2nd and 25th Infantry Divisions. Upon returning from the war, he returned to his career as a carpenter. He joined the Mendham United Methodist Church where he became one of the youngest lay leaders. He was a very private person who throughout his life gave of himself to others. He helped many and never asked for anything in return. His hobby was collecting stamps. He was an avid Yankees baseball fan. He retired in 1998 from Reed Elsevier Publishing Company. He was a family man who loved all his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Ernest Bockoven and his brother, Robert Bockoven. He leaves his wife Kathleen of 62 years. He is survived by his children: A son James Bockoven and his wife Susan of Coupersport, PA; his son, Donald N. Bockoven, JR. and his wife Laura of Medway, MA, a daughter, Cathy Carver and her husband Bill of Califon, NJ, a daughter, Ruth Ann Consoli and her husband Jack of Linglestown, PA, nine grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and a sister, Helen Kopacka of Bath, PA. Funeral arrangements are by the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham NJ. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24th from 3-7pm at the funeral home. Funeral service Friday, April 25th 11am in in the funeral. Interment Hilltop Cemetery, Mendham. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Long Valley First Aid Squad, PO Box 11, Long Valley, NJ 07853 or a charity of your choice.
