Obituary of Zian Su

Zian Su passed away in Bedminster, New Jersey on the morning of February 20, 2014. Mr. Zian Su was born into a prominent family on November 2, 1925 in Wuhan, China. His father, Pei Kun Su, graduated from Waseda University in Japan and among his many accomplishments, founded one of the first and most important military schools in China in the early 1900s. Mr. Su graduated from Huazhong University and majored in Chemistry in the 1940s. From 1960 until his retirement in 1990, he was a department head and held the highest position as a research professor at the Chinese Institute of Chemical Industry of Forest Products. Additionally, Mr. Su was appointed as Secretary General of the Chinese Society of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Forest Products, served on a number of boards of national organizations in chemical industries, and was elected as a member of the Chinese Political Consultation Committee of Jiangsu province. Beyond his professional successes, Mr. Su had an affinity for many crafts including photography. While greatly recognized for his academic and professional accomplishments, Mr. Su will be remembered first-and-foremost as a caring gentleman with an incredibly infectious smile, warm heart, and gracious attitude. He lit up every room he walked into, and all who had the privilege of knowing Mr. Su can attest to his fine character. His life will be forever celebrated, and his presence forever missed. On October 18, 2011, Mr. Su and his wife, Shuxian Zhou, moved from Nanjing, China to the United States to be with their family. Besides his wife, he is survived by his two children, Xiaozhou and Xiaoping; his five granddaughters, Maria, Michelle and Monica Su, and Caroline and Catherine Zhu; his son in-law, Song Zhu; his daughter-in-law, Beilin Xiao; and his two older sisters, Bonan and Zhonghui Su. Mr. Su will rest at a mausoleum in Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
