Obituary of William Pfotzer

William Pfotzer ended his journey on earth September 1, 2013. He was born in Buffalo, NY on May 18, 1935 to the late Dr. Roy G. Pfotzer and Marion Gordon. Bill spent his early years in the Buffalo area, until the untimely death of his father in 1940. His family moved to the New Jersey town of Glen Ridge where he attended school and graduated from Glen Ridge High School in 1953. He studied at Layette College when he received a degree in Industrial Engineering. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on active duty for four years. Bill continued his service to our county being in the Naval Reserve for 27 years and retiring as a Captain. During his service to the USN Bill received commendations for National Defense, Armed Forces Reserve and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. He began working for Grace National Bank in their operations department in 1961 and continued on with Marine Midland Bank as their operations merged in 1965. In 1963 he received an MBA from Pace University in 1967. He retired from Marine Midland in 1985, pursuing a second career in consulting and stock trading management. He was involved with a local scout troop in Westfield, NJ becoming assistant scoutmaster. He was an avid sailor from a young age, pursuing his passion in later years by racing large radio-controlled sailboats he hand-crafted in the New York area He is survived by his loving children William Pfotzer (Will), Margret Cowden (Maggie) and three grandchildren: Emma Pfotzer, Aidan Pfotzer and Sarah Cowden. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Bill’s name to Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
