Sr. Lura Lane Obituary
Sister Lura Grace Hastings-Lane, of the Community of St. John Baptist in Mendham, passed away on July 14, 2013. She was 64.
Sr Lura Grace was born and raised in Maine. She had a long career as an Executive Director of three Chambers of Commerce in New England before entering the Community of St. John Baptist in 2002. As a Sister she served at St. Mark’s in Mendham and St. John’s in Dover. Her passion was helping the homeless and she volunteered at shelters in NYC and Morristown. She also served on the boards of Family Promise of Morris County, Our Place, Inc. in Morristown, and the Interchurch Committee of the Mendhams.
At the convent Sr. Lura Grace was the Assistant Superior and was in charge of St. Marguerite’s Retreat House. She was also a spiritual director having graduated from the Quellen Spiritual Director Formation Program at Mallinckrodt Convent in Mendham.
Sr. Lura Grace is survived by her son, Scott Hastings, and his wife Lisa; two brothers, Edward Stewart and his wife Linda and Edwin Towers and his wife Terry.
Her funeral service will be held at the Convent of St. John Baptist on Friday, July 26 at 10:30 AM followed by interment in the convent cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community of St. John Baptist.
