Obituary of Joan L. Pellek

MENDHAM – Joan L. Pellek passed away at home on Monday, July 15, 2013 after a gallant fight with cancer.  She was 84. Born in Newark, NJ to Frederick and Mary Cecila (McDonald) Trautwein, Sr. on July 5, 1029, she was a resident of Mendham since 1958. She was previously a resident of Newark and Basking Ridge. Joanie was a registered nurse, graduating from Jersey City Medical Center Nursing School in 1951. She worked at Overlook Hospital, Morristown Memorial Hospital, Jersey City Medical Center and East Orange General Hospital as an operating nurse and at the Holly Manor Nursing Home. Joanie was an avid tennis player, winning numerous local championships. She also enjoyed golf and was a dedicated swimmer until she was 80 years old. She was a devout parishioner of St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Mendham for over 55 years. Mrs. Pellek was predeceased by her son Michael in 1992, and her brother Frederick Trautwein in 2012. Survivors include her husband Tom, and her sons Andrew and Mark and his long time girlfriend Renee Rudd. Arrangements are by the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham, NJ 07945. www.baileyfuneralhomes.com Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.  Funeral Services will be from the funeral home on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 9:45 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's R. C. Church, West Main Street, Mendham. Interment will follow Mass at the Mendham Hilltop Cemetery.
