Obituary of Mary E. Denig

Chester Twp.- Mary E. Denig died on Jan. 12, 2009 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare's Hospital, Dover. She was 73. Born in New York City, she was raised in Port Washington, NY, lived in Newfoundland, PA, and Mendham before moving to Chester in 1968. Her parents were the late Charles A. Garvey and the late Frances Lynch Garvey. She graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School in Manhasset, NY and graduated from Katherine Gibbs School in NYC. Mary worked for the Naval Special Devices Center in Sands Points, NY until her first child was born. Mary was a homemaker. She enjoyed reading, tennis, and traveling with her family. She and her husband visited 49 states, only missing Hawaii. She worked on the Board of Elections for over 20 years. She was the President of the Junior Women's Club of Mendham. Mary also served as a Girl Scout Leader, was a member of the Garden Club and the Book Club, all of Chester. Mary will be remembered by her many close friends and loved ones for her grace, dignity and selfless concern for others. Her wisdom, humility and loving support will be greatly missed. Her daughter Karen E. Bockoven died previously. Survivors include her husband of 54 years Robert J. Denig, two sons: Robert O. and wife, Cynthia, of Delaware Twp, NJ, John and wife, Emily, of Buford, GA, one daughter, Eleanor Marin of Bridgewater, NJ, one brother, Charles Garvey of North Bergen, NJ and three sisters, Frances Linton of FL, Joan Smith of FL, and Judith Boxley of Glen Rock, NJ. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren Colin, Nathaniel, Andrew and Lindsay Denig and Sara Marin and Michael Bockoven. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday Jan 17, 2009 at 10am at the St. Lawrence the Martyr Church, Main St., Chester. Arrangements by the Bailey Funeral Home of Mendham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Georgia Chapter, 2302 Parklake Drive, Suite 210, Atlanta, GA 30345.
