Obituary of Barbara Ann Nahabedian
Barbara Ann Nahabedian, née Sielinski died peacefully surrounded by family on July 10, 2013 at her home in Maryland. She was 69. Born in Boston, MA she lived in Mendham and Chester, NJ for 33 years before moving to Maryland in 2011. Barbara received her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Northeastern University in 1966. She was an elementary school teacher initially, and an at-home mom for many years, volunteering extensively. After earning her certificate in special education from the College of St. Elizabeth in 1993, she taught for 17 more years, 15 as teacher of students with disabilities at ECLC of NJ in Chatham before she retired.
She was an active, long-time member of "Hilltop" Presbyterian Church in Mendham, where she sang in the choir and played in the bell choir. She loved making Ukrainian Easter eggs and cooking both Ukrainian and Armenian food. She also enjoyed needlepoint and playing recorder in the Mendham Recorder Consort. Her family will remember her as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who always cared for and served others before herself.
She is survived by her husband Charles Nahabedian; her two daughters, Cyndy Mamalian and her husband Paul of Potomac, Maryland, and Christina Hanson and her husband Mark of Houston, Texas; and one brother, Peter Sielinski. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Alexandra, Matthew and Juliette Mamalian, and Nicholas, Christopher and Andrew Hanson. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 19, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 20 at 10:30 am at "Hilltop" Presbyterian Church, 20 Hilltop Rd., Mendham. Interment will immediately follow at Hilltop Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the ALS Association for research, or ECLC of NJ Foundation.
