Obituary of Kathryn F. Smith
MENDHAM TWP - Kathryn "Kay" F. Smith passed away peacefully at Fellowship Village, Basking Ridge, NJ on Monday, February 4, 2013. She was 87. Kay was born in Connellsville PA to the late Clarence and Loreen (Struble) McCormick on August 11, 1925, she grew up in Oakmont PA and graduated from Penn State University. Kay moved to Manhattan where she met her husband of 48 years John. She resided in Mendham Township for 50 years until moving to Basking Ridge in 2005. An energetic participant in the Brookside community, she served on the board of the Mendham Township Library and was active with the Women's Club of Morristown and the League of Women Voters. A longtime golfer at the Mendham Golf and Tennis Club, she was also an avid bridge player, gardener and worked at the polls on election day. She was a member of the Hilltop Presbyterian Church in Mendham for five decades. Kay was employed as a bookkeeper by various firms, retiring from J. Feuerstein Systems in Parsippany. She was predeceased by her husband John P Smith in 2002. Kay was a loving mother and friend and Survivors include her son Jonathan A Smith and his wife Rosella Campion of Boston MA; her daughter Martha M Smith of New Haven CT; two granddaughters Laurie Cecil and Erin O'Keefe; two great grandchildren and many cousins. All who knew her are welcome. Interment was private at Sylvan Heights Cemetery in Uniontown PA.
