Obituary of J. Edward Jaeckle
J. Edward Jaeckle Jr. died on Aug. 25, 2012, at the age of 85 at his home in Mendham, N.J. A memorial service will be held on Sept. 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Hilltop Presbyterian Church, Hilltop Road, Mendham. www.baileyfuneralhomes.com. Ed was a graduate of New York Military Academy and served in the Army during World War II. He began his lifelong career in the retail jewelry business, working with his father at Edward Jaeckle and Son in Jersey City, N.J., the family firm founded by his grandfather in 1898. After a career in New York City working for the Watchmakers of Switzerland, he joined his father-in-law, Gerald New, at his establishment F. Gerald New Inc. He retired at age 65 and enjoyed life. He was a patriot and a gentleman. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne New Jaeckle; one son, J. Edward Jaeckle III of Pottersville, N.J.; two daughters, Gretchen Jaeckle of Pottersville and Catherine Jaeckle Norbury and her husband, Paul, of Peapack, N.J. He is also survived by his two sisters, Carol Hunt of Lakewood, N.J., and Lucille Jaeckle Stone and her husband, Michael Kirby, of Northampton, Mass.
