Obituary of John Q. Larkin

John "Jack" Q. Larkin, Jr., died at home on May 10, 2012. He was 56. Born in Glen Ridge, NJ he lived in Florham Park, NJ, before moving to Mendham Borough, NJ in 1981. Jack was a 1974 graduate of the Delbarton School and attended Farleigh Dickenson University from 1975 through 1977. He was a longtime member of the Upper Montclair Country Club and also Mendham Borough Board of Education's Chairman of Facilities and Finance from 1999 to 2004. Among his greatest achievements was overseeing completing, on time and under budget, reconstructing Mendham Borough's Hilltop School. In recognition of and tribute to this accomplishment, the Borough affixed to the Hilltop School a plaque proclaiming, "The House That Jack Built". Jack was an active member of St. Joseph's Church, coached Mendham Borough Soccer from 1995 through 1997, and coached Mendham Borough Softball from 1998 through 2000. In 2003, he founded Zenith Electric in Cedar Knolls, NJ after working for Larkin Services in Chatham for eighteen years. Survivors include his two daughters Alexandra and Kara Larkin and their mother Hillary of Mendham, his mother Virginia Brown Larkin ofWall Township, NJ, his father John Q. Larkin, Sr. and his wife Dianne of Summit, NJ, three sisters Christine Huthwaite (Thomas) of Little Silver, NJ, Kathleen (John) Cummins of Manasquan, NJ, and Denise Ferrari (Robert) of Ashboro, VA, and one brother Keith Larkin (Eileen) of Little Silver, NJ. He is also survived by his dear friend Sharon Nickerson of Mendham, NJ and was the proud uncle of eighteen nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 7-9 pm and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham, NJ. His Funeral Mass will follow on Tuesday at 10:30am at St. Joseph's Church, Mendham. Interment will be inGate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. For those desiring to do so, donations to the American Cancer Society of NJ, in his memory, would be appreciated.
