Obituary of Thomas H. Dillon

Thomas Hardin Dillon December 16, 1952 - April 26, 2012 DILLON - Thomas Hardin, age 59, died peacefully on April 26th after a brave battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. A life-long resident of Oldwick, NJ, Tom was active in business, philanthropy, and sporting circles. Tom was born December 16, 1952 in Morristown, NJ to the late Dorothy Hardin Dillon and Sidney G. Dillon of Gladstone, NJ. He graduated from The Hill School (1973) and Clark University (1977). He was a partner with Advance Capital Partners, LLC a diversified real estate investment and development entity headquartered in Bedminster, NJ. In addition, Dillon served as President of both the Hills Development Company and Environmental Disposal Corporation. Prior to his affiliation with Advance Capital Partners, Dillon was President of Gale, Wentworth & Dillon, LLC a residential development company headquartered in Florham Park, NJ. Before joining Gale, Wentworth & Dillon in 1991, Dillon was a Vice President of MPW Companies, headquartered in New Jersey. Prior to MPW, he was an officer with Midlantic Mortgage Corporation the real estate finance subsidiary of Midlantic National Bank. In addition to his business affiliations, Dillon was a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International. He served on the Board of The Boys and Girls Clubs of Newark where he was Board President. He served on the Boards of the Tewksbury Land Trust, Far Hills Country Day School, the Watchung Area Boy Scouts Council and Bates Manufacturing Company. He served as President of the Somerset Hills Lake and Game Club for many years. He was on the Board of the Siasconset Casino, Nantucket Island, MA. He was a member of Raritan Associates. Tom was an avid sportsman, excelling in paddle tennis, tennis, golf, hockey, and hunting. But his real passion was fishing, which led him to all the major rivers in the western U.S., South America, and eastern Canada. Tom leaves his wife Patty of Oldwick, NJ; sons Tom, Jr., of Hoboken, NJ, Henry of New York City, and daughter Sarah of New York City; his father Sidney G. Dillon of Gladstone, NJ; and siblings Molly Raymond of Potomac, MD, Lucy Dillon of Nantucket, MA, Mary Bird of Bethesda, MD, and Charles Dillon of Oldwick, NJ, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. A celebration of Tom's life will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Gladstone, NJ, on Thursday, May 3rd at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tom's memory can be made to The Boys and Girls Club of Newark, NJ, or to the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at the Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, NJ.
