Obituary of Peter C Pennimpede

Peter C. Pennimpede passed away at home on Friday April 20, 2012 at home in Mendham. He was 97 years old. Peter was born and raised in Morristown, NJ. He was a longtime resident of Mendham. He is predeceased by his loving wife Marie; his parents, Peter and Matilda Pennimpede; brothers Joseph, Vincent, and Anthony Pennimpede and sister Rose Cecala. Peter was a WII veteran, entering the US Army in 1942. He was a staff sergeant in the army medical department, supervising field hospital operations and dispensaries. He served most of his time overseas in China, Burma, and India. He received the Bronze star for meritorious service in addition to good conduct medals. After the war, Pete worked for the A&P in Madison where he met his wife Marie. They were married 64 years until her passing in 2010. Pete retired from A&P supermarkets in 1978 after a long career as a produce manager. After retiring, he was a school crossing guard in Mendham for many years. Pete also served in the Mendham Borough Board of Adjustment, was a life member of the Pastime Club, and was a member of the St. Joseph Parish where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and The Knights of Columbus. He was a past member of the Mendham American Legion and was active in the Pastime Club bowling leagues and the Labor Day fundraising committees. Peter lived a very active life. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, camping, swimming at the YMCA, bowling in the Mendham Men's Pastime Club League, and traveling; especially with the Mendham Senior's group. He and his wife loved camping and extensively traveled throughout much of the United States with family and friends. Peter liked to help people build and remodel their homes. Pete is survived by many loving family members including brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jim and Geri Cillo, Pete and Alice Cillo, Jack and Theresa Smith, Sal and Rose Grievo all of Mendham; Dr. Joseph Cillo of Chester, Anthony and Delores Cillo of Middlesex, and Aniello (Nen) Cillo of Virginia in addition to many dear nieces and nephews and their families. Visitation Tuesday April 24, 2012 from 4-8pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Church, Mendham.
