Obituary of John R. Murray

John Robert Murray, age 94, passed away at his home in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 20, 2012. He was born July 17, 1917 in Orange, New Jersey to Frank and Elizabeth (Young) Murray. He was the 2nd of 7 children, all predeceased. John graduated from Orange High School in 1934. He went on to graduate from Princeton College in 1938 and then to Columbia Law School, graduating in 1941. He was commissioned into the Coast Guard and served on Atlantic convoys from 1942 to1945. He joined his father's successful law practice in Orange, New Jersey and took over the practice after his father's death in 1959. He is preceded in death by his first wife Mary Clementine (Carter) Murray in 1954, his second wife Mary Jean (Molyneaux) Murray in 1993 and his son Richard (Lori) Johnson in 2007. He is survived by his son, Patrick (Jacque), daughter, Mary Katherine (Daniel) Lynch, daughter in law, Lori Johnson, grandchildren Thea (Jeremy) Burke, Meg Murray, Ryan Lynch and Sydney Jean Johnson and his great grandchildren, Fiona and Erin Burke. John was an extraordinary man who loved spending time with his family and always looked forward to family events and gatherings. He was always very athletic and enjoyed tennis and golf, winning many tournaments in both of these sports. He was a member of the Orange Lawn Tennis Club and Mendham Golf and Tennis Club. John will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Visitation will be held on Monday Feb. 26 from 9:30am until 10:00am at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham, NJ. Funeral Mass Monday 10:30am at St. Joseph Church, Mendham. Interment Hilltop Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Valley Forge Military Academy and College, 1001 Eagle Rd., Wayne, PA, 19087, in his memory, would be appreciated. Special Thanks to the visiting nurses and aides from Pottstown Hospice, Chestnut Knolls, Orpha Mackay and Bonnie MacDonald.
