Always had fond memories of Steve back in my old lifeguard days at NPCP. I always thought he was a great guy. I am so very sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers to the Tiboni family.

From the minute I met Steve, I liked him. He always made me laugh and ALWAYS made others feel good about themselves. If you were down he would make you smile and forget about what was upsetting you. Anyone who has ever worked with him knows this is gospel. Just recently Joey Gentile called me about Steve, and like so many times Steve always thought about how other people were doing, thats Steve. I cant tell you after that phone call with JoeyG how I cried, about what Steve told Joey to tell me when he saw or heard from me. Always thinking about others, thats steve. A great Trooper, Father and husband.and friend, to everyone. I will miss him dearly.Words cant express the person that was Steve Tiboni,The lord has a new Angel with him, and the world lost a great person, Till we meet again Steve , I love you brother!

This photo is from June 1985 which was Steve’s junior year in high school. It was taken at Great Adventure in NJ which I find ironic because when I think of Steve and how he lived his life, it really was one, big, great adventure with him. If you were lucky, you were able to accompany him on least part of the ride.
I went to high school with Steve and I can honestly say that he was one of the funniest people I ever met. No one could tell a story like Steve did and he would often hold court at the lunch table describing the previous day mishap with his quick wit, self-deprecating humor and animated style. I remember one story he told where he was riding his bike down Elkwood Avenue in NP. He stopped in front of a house that had an apple tree and decided to pick some apples. He must’ve picked his fifth apple and put it in his backpack when the owner of the house, a foreign woman, ran out and started yelling at him, “ you no pick apple from tree!” Steve immediately ran to his bike but when he got on it he realized that his bike chain had broke and he couldn’t pedal away. He had me rolling on the floor laughing as he described the woman chasing him down the street screaming at him while he held his ten-speed over his head in one arm and threw the stolen apples back at her with his other. Then there was the time he brought his new puppy, “Petey” to school and carried him in his duffle bag all day. I think he got through fifth period before he got busted for bringing the dog to school. If my memory serves me correctly, his parents did not yet know about the dog which explains why “Petey” was at school in the duffle bag with Steve. Classic Tiboni.
I reached out to Steve in April of this year through Facebook. My dad had left his guns to me when he passed away and I had a gun ownership question. Steve responded to me immediately. He gave me his number, asked me to call him and told me he was thrilled to hear that I was “packing heat.” We spoke on the phone for close to an hour. I had not talked to him in over thirty years but you’d never know it. He was the same old Steve… hadn’t changed a bit. He was cracking jokes and making me laugh as usual. We caught each other up on our lives, commiserated about parenting kids in today’s age and tried to figure out how we both had gotten so old so quickly. He said that he would try and make it out to Colorado on his next cross-country tour and that we shouldn’t let another thirty years go by before we spoke again. He sounded so happy on the phone that day which of course made me happy. We had to end our call because he was just pulling in to the Darien Country Club for his and Kerri’s Engagement party. He joked that he parked his van between two Mercedes. I had no idea that would be our last conversation. I am grateful to have had it.
Sadly I will not be able to attend Steve’s Celebration of Life next week. If ever there was a life worth celebrating, it was certainly Steve’s. He brought so much joy and laughter everywhere he went. I would like to express my sincerest condolences to Kerri and the entire Tiboni family. I hope you find solace in knowing how many people loved Steve and will truly miss him. Memories of him will always bring a smile to my face.
And to Steve, I know I will see you again one day my old friend, but until that day comes, please do me a favor and “leave the porch light on.”

In this time of mourning I pray Steve’s family and loved ones can take comfort and find solace in the fact Steve’s life, albeit too short; was a life well lived.
Steve would not want people to grieve his passing. He would want us to raise a glass, share a story, have a laugh, and celebrate the good times.
Steve and I served as Altar boys together at Our Lady of Peace church. We played PAL baseball, CYO basketball, Pop Warner and high school football together. We raced bicycles, skied and snowboarded, hiked Mt. Washington and jumped out of perfectly good airplanes together.
We used to joke we had reached our peak in high school. This certainly was not true of Steve. He was always accomplishing bigger and better things.
Steve’s life was a life well lived. I was blessed to have known him.
There is a line from the Mel Gibson movie Braveheart.
“Every man dies, not every man truly lives.”
Steve Tiboni truly lived!
My condolences to family, loved ones and friends.

The obit says it all. Although it is often said, in the case of Steve - the world is truly a lesser place without him. Just an awesome dude, the best of the best. May he rest in peace, he will never be forgotten.

I met Steve during 9/11. He was an upbeat man and always had something good to say about his fellow workers. We'll see him again at the crossroads.

I met Steve through Jimmy and he always made me laugh and I was always jealous of how he lived life to the fullest. My favorite memories are when he drove a car with no floorboards and no heat and would wear goggles as he drove and another time when Jimmy got upset about how he left the shower and he said “think about the first place you put the soap and the last place I put the soap” he was awesome!

Steve and I go way back to Our Lady of Peace grade school in New Providence where we became close friends. Catholic school discipline wasn’t a great fit for Steve and for most of us which ultimately led to him leaving for public school. We stayed connected, played town sports together (see 7th grade wrestling pic, lol) and remained friends through high school. I spent many days on Commonwealth with the Kelahers, Carolls and others playing touch (tackle) football. Unfortunately, after high school we lost touch but I regularly heard from friends about what he was up to and this obituary post is spot on. Steve was his own man, tough, funny and kind. We played football together and I could always count on Steve for passion in the game and a winning mentality. Knowing his wonderful family I wasn’t surprised he served in law enforcement like his dad who he respected so much. It was my honor to know his mom, dad, Joe, Lynn and Jen. As the universe would have it, I was fortunate to get reacquainted with Steve in 2022 when I bumped into him in Tuckerton. It was great catching up with him and closing the time gap together since the old days. We stayed in touch and as of a couple weeks ago, we spoke of properties in Tuckerton and getting together again for a drink. Needless to say, like others, I was stunned and deeply saddened to learn of his passing. We lost a good one. My deepest condolences to Kerri, his children and family. You will be in my heart and prayers. May Steve rest in peace. Unfortunately, I will be out of country on 12/16 and will miss this wonderful tribute to a great life. Peace to all. Sincerely, Joe DiRienzo

Getting a message asking me “Where do your parents live in Vero?” After just speaking with him while he was in New Mexico is one of a million memories that will always make me chuckle. Thinking he needed a place to crash I gave him the address. He showed up with coffee and food for my folks, showed them his Wanderer Wagon (which my dad still cracks up about) and left them in stitches. This world lost a gem entirely too early.
