Obituary of Lisa Hock Mack
Lisa Hock Mack, 69, of Oyster Bay, NY, passed away too soon on November 9, 2024. Lisa was President of Huntington Fine Arts in Huntington NY, and the inspiration to hundreds of young adult artists during her outstanding career.
Lisa was affectionately known for her signature blonde flowing hair, crisp white or black elegantly tailored clothing, and love of angels, lilies, and all things French. But most especially, it was her inimitable grace, sense of humor and joie de vivre that resound so memorably.
Lisa was born in Rockville Center, NY to James & Doris Hock July 27,1955. She had a happy, hectic childhood with her 5 siblings in West Hempstead, NY before the family moved to Lloyd Harbor, in eastern Long Island. She graduated early from Cold Spring Harbor High School and went on to earn a BFA/MFA from the University of New Hampshire, where she honed her promising artistic skills.
Inspiring young artists to pursue their dreams was Lisa’s vocation. Lisa worked with, and later married Huntington Fine Arts founder Joe Mack, and upon his death in 2007 took over as president. Since that time, she has led the 33-year-old institution to its current status as one of the premier arts training/college preparatory schools in the greater NYC area. Forty years ago, Lisa also established Lisa Hock, Inc., a company which creates commissioned artwork for corporations and private entities across the country; another aspect of her business, Portfolio Preparation and College Counseling, prepares students for their collegiate journeys and their future careers as artists.
Lisa’s passion helped direct the advancement of hundreds of dedicated students through rigorous training in arts discipline and skills in order to identify and recognize their potential, develop excellence, and present college portfolios worthy of admission to the finest arts programs in the US and beyond, often accompanied by substantial Merit and other scholarships.
An incredibly gifted, yet modest artist herself, Lisa has received multiple honors, including The Huntington Council of the Arts Harry Chapin Award for her commitment to the arts and support of Hecksher Museum in Huntington NY. Yet her proudest achievement was fulfilling the dreams of her students and their parents, and the life-work of her dedicated staff.
