I was saddened to hear of the passing of Jim. Working in communications for NJ Fish & Wildlife for more than 34 years now, I had the privilege of working with him frequently, and providing him information on fish and wildlife issues and programs. He was always supportive of me, and passionate about hunting, fishing and conservation in New Jersey. I will miss him both professionally and personally. Rest in Peace, Jim..

I knew Jim through our membership in state, regional and national outdoor writer organizations. I came to realize what an excellent writer and reporter he was. Afield, whether on the water or hunting, I also appreciated what a skilled sportsman he was. At dinner meetings and other gatherings, Jim was always fun to be with. His smile and laugh were uplifting. Jim made his mark on the outdoor world—and on my world.

Although we cannot live forever we can live well while we are able. "DADDY", as I was happy to call him (as a close friend to his daughter Jill) did that and always with a smile. I was fortunate to share in several exciting adventures .....at Paul Smith's College, in Mendham NJ, Miami Beach FL, Boca Chica FL and more. The memorial photo is the perfect reflection of his life. May he rest now in peace and forever with a smile. Jill and Vicki, I'm sorry for your loss.

Saddened to learn of Jim's death. He was my idol when I began getting published on fishing during my teens. We kept in touch from shortly after his stroke.

I will surely miss Jim, a very dear friend for 60 years. I have many memories of hunting and fishing with Jim. He packed a wealth of knowledge about the outdoors and wildlife...especially in New Jersey. He introduced me to float fishing on several NJ rivers and streams. Jim was a prolific writer as well as a watchdog of NJ wildlife legislation. I never saw Jim without a broad smile on his face. Yes, Jim was a grand man! Vin Sparano

I was saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. I always enjoyed talking to him, either when he would call for a fishing report or when he stopped at the shop for a visit. Jim, Was one of the best and now one of the last of a long line of Outdoor writers who helped promote New Jersey's Outdoors. Some 30 years ago when I became President of the Lake Hopatcong Knee Deep Club Jim was always available to help me, whether to promote an event or to get an important issue out there in the press or to just give some sage advise. He was never afraid to take on an issue. My best memories are when he took me to the Outdoor Writer's Dinner which was a really big deal back in the day. He also fished with me in The Lake Hopatcong Stew Lant Challenge. I don't remember us catching many fish that day, but I remember having a great time just doing what fishermen do, telling stories, enjoying nature and each other's company and of course a good meal at the Windlass to end the day. Jim you will be missed
